Academic Curriculum:

The academic curriculum at IEC Ladysmith is separated into the following four phases:

  • Foundation Phase:- Grades R – 3

  • Intermediate Phase:- Grades 4 – 7

  • Senior Phase:- Grades 8 – 9

  • F. E. T. Phase:- Grades 10 – 12

Each phase is designed to ensure that the students are receiving all the required skills and knowledge for their specific phase.

Foundation Phase:

The foundation phase of learning is crucial to the development of any child. Since the core moral values are taught at this age, we at IEC ensure that all students in this phase are receiving the necessary knowledge required to ensure that they grow up and live their lives as well mannered, kind and good Muslims. The curriculum followed in the foundation phase consists of the following modules:

  • Literacy

  • Numeracy

  • Life Skills

  • Computer Literacy

Intermediate Phase:

In the intermediate phase, students are introduced to the modules that are included in most conventional schooling systems. Here, students are taught the basic frameworks for these modules. They are also taught how to approach examinations as well as problem solving skills. The modules included in the intermediate phase are:

  • English

  • Afrikaans

  • Mathematics

  • Natural Sciences

  • Social Sciences

  • Life Skills

  • Computer Skills

Senior Phase:

The senior phase is put in place to allow students to consider their own skills and affinities and allow them to explore their own creativity. Since, in this phase, students begin to consider which F. E. T. modules they shall be taking and, ultimately, their possible future careers; this phase has been designed to cover as broad a scope as possible for our schools. The modules included in the intermediate phase are:

  • English

  • Afrikaans

  • Mathematics

  • Life Orientation

  • Natural Sciences

  • Social Sciences

  • Economic Management Sciences

  • Creative Arts

  • Technology

  • Computer Skills

F. E. T. Phase:

Finally, the Further Education and Training (F. E. T.) Phase of learning is the final part of schooling students shall complete before embarking on the journey that is life. In this phase, students are allowed to select the modules that they would like to complete. These subject choices shall determine which university courses students can apply for as well as which career they may choose. The modules for this phase are as follows:

Compulsory Modules:

  • English

  • Afrikaans

  • Life Orientation

  • Mathematics or Mathematics Literacy

Optional Modules:

Students choose three of the following modules:

  • Life Sciences

  • Geography

  • Accounting

  • History

  • Physical Sciences

  • Business Studies
